Method 1: Manual Configuration Of Exceptions and Ports To The QuickBooks Firewall

  • Open the Windows Start menu and enter the word Firewall in the search box.
  • Select Windows Firewall from the result.
  • Select Advanced Settings from the left side of the window
  • Right-click on the Inbound Rules option and click New Rule.
  • Choose on Port and select
  • Check the TCP option and enter the specific ports needed for your QuickBooks year version:
    • For QuickBooks Desktop 2018: 8019, 56728, 55378-55382
    • For QuickBooks Desktop 2017: 8019, 56727, 55373-55377
    • For QuickBooks Desktop 2016: 8019, 56726, 55368-55372
    • For QuickBooks Desktop 2015: 8019, 56725, 55363-55367
  • Select Next and ensure Allow the Connection is selected, then select Next
  • Check-marked all profile then select Next.
  • Name the Rule like QBPorts. Click Finish when done.
  • Repeat the steps above for the Outbound Rules (for step 4 inbound rules, choose Outbound Rules).
  • Open QuickBooks Desktop in Multi-User Mode or over the network to verify if the issue still persists.

Method 2:  Create Exceptions To QuickBooks Programs

  • Open the Windows Start menu and enter the word Firewall in the search box.
  • Select Windows Firewall from the result.
  • Select Advanced Settings from the left side of the window
  • Right-click on the Inbound Rules option and click New Rule.
  • Select Program and then click Next
  • Open This Program Path then choose Browse
  • Navigate to one of the paths provided in the table (Perform one by one), then choose Next
  • Check the Allow the Connection and then select Next again
  • Check-mark all the profiles and then click Next
  • Provide a name to the Rule and then select Finish.
  • Do the same steps above for the Outbound Rules (for step 4- instead of inbound rules select Outbound Rules).
  • Open QuickBooks Desktop in Multi-User Mode or over the network to verify if the issue still persists.

Method 3: Use QuickBooks File Doctor

You can install, download and run QuickBooks File Doctor. It will open the blocked firewall port. This can resolve the issue.
